Dear Friends:
Thanks for volunteering to serve food and greet the Special Olympics athletics. This year the Mid Winter Games are at The Citadel on Friday and Saturday March 4th & 5th.
There will be over 800 athletes that we'll be serving dinner to each h night, as well as breakfast on Saturday. Dinner volunteers are requested to be there by 4:45 PM,so we can start serving at 5:00; and Breakfast volunteers are to be there at 6:45 AM to serve at 7:00. Please wear comfortable clothes especially comfortable shoes. We will greet, serve from the steam tables (buffet lines), serve drinks, give hugs, & high Fives, and wipe off tables, etc. We do not have to cook or wash dishes!
Please park in back of the Mess Hall; follow the map (red line) to Coward Hall (Mess Hall). If you are coming on Friday, there will be a Citadel dress parade at 3:45. If you've never been, you will enjoy. Also, on Friday night after dinner there will be opening ceremonies. Each team dresses in its colors and marches in the parade just like the Olympians will do in China later this year. There will be a great keynote speaker at the Opening Ceremonies. You will enjoy this even more than the parade!
On Saturday night after dinner there will be quick closing ceremonies, and the best part ... a dance. If you want to stay, you are invited. to the piece de resistance ... the games will be Saturday morning!
The sports will be: Badminton, Basketball skills both team & Individual Skills, Basketball Team Skills, Disc Golf, Masters Bowling, and Team Handball. You have never ever felt so good if you have not seen our Athletes in action! After each team finishes its sport, the medals are awarded; then Olympic Town opens for fun, games, lunch, doctor checkups, and music from a DJ. Please let me know your t shirt size.
Thanks again. If you have any questions please email or call. When you come to help serve, please bring this email so you have the map as well as my cell number 425-3499. See you there and be prepared to have fun!
